Laying the Foundation
May 3, 2017 IN Living Free

Just like with any problem, the first step to changing it is to admit you have a problem.  The foundation to Living Free is to be realistic about your financial situation.  This can be the most intimidating part of the process.  Writing down what is actually owed on credit cards, medical bills, student loans, and car loans can be overwhelming.  During this step, people tend to feel overwhelmed and in turn begin to feel hopeless.  Don’t let these feelings deter you from making a change.  You have let your money control for such a long time.  It’s time to take back control of your money and your life!

Make a list of every debt you have.  Put it in order from smallest to greatest amounts owed.  Now you have a clear picture of the hurdles before you.  Remember conquering this task will not happen overnight but it will happen eventually!

You now need to layout your monthly expenses.  List what you spend every month on mortgage, utilities, cell phones, food, gas, etc.  Even include minimum payments that must be made each month on your debt.  These are the expenses you have to pay to survive each month.

Next, list your income.  This amount you have to work with each month.  This is how you will pay your monthly expenses, and yes, get you out of debt.

Totally overwhelmed yet?  Remember to breathe.  You have taken the first step to take back control of your life.  You have laid out the foundation to implement change.  From this foundation, we will build a blue print on how to pay off your debt.   Now take a moment to change your mindset.  Know that you will succeed and experience the true meaning of Living Free.
